Efficient energy use will be of crucial importance the coming decades. As energy demand and availability fluctuate, there is considerable interest in the development of devices and materials for storing energy. To develop processes or apparatus for efficient storage and conversion of energy and mass, it is crucial to have a deep understanding of core disciplines such as thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. It is also important to have a solid knowledge on the apparatus level.
The positions offered explore the fields of energy storage and conversion technology, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and process technology. Research can be experimental, simulations, or theory, and can be either applied or fundamental. The candidates will develop a new research programme in the field of process and energy technology that fits within the department's strategy. The candidates will initiate and coordinate research and will teach and supervise BSc, MSc, and PhD students. In principle, the positions will be filled at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track). For exceptionally strong candidates, an appointment at Associate Professor (tenured) level will be considered.

We are looking for researchers with a strong background and PhD in mechanical engineering, physics, chemical engineering, or another relevant discipline. It should be clear that the researcher is ready to start his/her own research line. The candidates (1) have a proven track record and publications related to the topics mentioned; (2) are able to bridge the gap between fundamental and more applied projects; (3) have excellent communication skills; and (4) are able to teach and supervise students at the BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering
Research in the Department of Process and Energy (Faculty 3mE) focuses on process and energy technology in a mechanical engineering context, meaning that a process or energy conversion is part of an apparatus. We envision that in the coming decades a transition from fossil/conventional energy conversion towards full electrification will take place in society. Our objective is to develop processes supporting this transition, by making existing processes more efficient and developing novel green technologies that use electricity as primary energy source to produce heavy transportation fuels and bulk chemicals. Continuum fluids are the common denominator, either as a process material, carrier, or solvent, or as a medium through which a transport, separation or chemical process is carried out.
The sections in the P&E Department are: Energy Technology, Large Scale Energy Storage, Intensified Reaction and Separation Systems, Engineering Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Multiphase Systems. Each section consists of several tenured/tenure-track researchers, technicians, support staff members, and PhD students/post-docs. Scientific collaborations between staff members of different sections are highly encouraged. Many research projects carried out at P&E have both an experimental and simulation/computational part. Research covers the range from full equipment scale down to the molecular scale. Researchers at the P&E Department are involved in teaching at the BSc and MSc levels within the 3mE Faculty. Due to rapid growth of the department we are looking for new permanent staff.
