Functieomschrijving

The Organizational Psychology group at the University of Groningen invites applications for a fixed-term post-doctoral researcher position (3 years).

This position is part of a VIDI grant awarded to Prof. Susanne Scheibe by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), for the project Hidden behind the veil of old age: Emotional benefits of growing older at work. Given population ageing and rising pressures to work longer, there is increasing attention on the challenges and promises of extended working lives. Previous findings on age-related changes in emotional competencies point at the possibility that older workers have hidden strengths in the emotional realm. This project therefore will take a developmental approach to the role of emotions in organizations. The overall aim is to establish age-related differences in emotional competencies and emotion dynamics in the workplace and explain how these are shaped by, and in turn shape, work experiences.

The specific aim of the post-doctoral project is to better understand the extent to which career experiences drive age trajectories of emotional competencies. The project will include longitudinal analyses of existing datasets and the set-up of the first wave of a new longitudinal study involving newly developed test-based measures of emotional competencies in the work context.

The Organizational Psychology group at the University of Groningen has a national and international reputation for excellence. Research within the Organizational Psychology group focuses on a wide range of topics, including the conditions that are necessary for an effective functioning of organizations and their workers in a way that is sustainable over the long-term, how workers can be influenced, motivated, and facilitated in reaching their (organizationally-relevant) goals or during organizational change, and personnel practices. The group is very internationally diverse, collaborates with scholars within and outside of the University of Groningen, and has established contacts with various business organizations.
