Project title

Organizational Forms and Consequences of Social Entrepreneurship in an International Perspective

Project description

The project seeks to contribute to our understanding of the organizational forms and business models of social actors engaged in social entrepreneurship activities, the respective business outcomes, as well as economic development and well-being, social and sustainability effects. A special focus is on social entrepreneurship as a way to address wicked problems or grand challenges such as poverty, inequality, and sustainability. The project consists of two interrelated parts and encompasses two PhD positions:

1 - PhD in the area of Sociology

The PhD student will assess the effects of social entrepreneurship models on business outcomes, economic development and well-being, social impact and sustainability. The goal is to gather longitudinal and comparative national-level information from various data sources on the prevalence and spending with regard to social entrepreneurship and link these to indicators for social, economic and environmental development and well-being. The Phd-student creates and analyses a longitudinal and comparative macro-level dataset with multiple indicators for social entrepreneurship and its social consequences, focusing on both Western and Non-Western countries. The PhD will be affiliated with the Department of Sociology at Tilburg University. The research program focuses on social inequality and social cohesion in a comparative perspective.
